Using A Curator's Mindset to Show Who I Am As A Learner

For PreK-5 Teachers

InnEdCo 2018

Developing curation as a foundational skill and mindset in PK-5 has the potential to shift to a culture where students identify as learners and take ownership of their learning. In this session, participants will learn what curating really is, and how to design curating opportunities for their learners. We will share examples of what this looks like at different grade levels, PK-5, as well as what we have learned on our journey of helping students to become curators. Participants will create a learner profile to identify characteristics of each age group that align with a curating mindset. They will use this to design a plan for curating with their learners.

Personalize Learning With Students as Curators

Colorado Association of Libraries CALCON 2017

The 2016 ISTE Standards for students call for students to be Knowledge Constructors, with indicator 3c stating "students curate information from digital resources using a variety of tools and methods to create collections of artifacts that demonstrate meaningful connections or conclusions." What is curating? How can this lead to students identifying their passions and owning their learning? Come to this session to find out!
